CFC (Canadian Film Centre) hosted a special Gala evening on Wednesday February 5th at The Carlu in Toronto paying tribute to the on-screen magic of music by producing a performance- focused event. CFC’s 20th Annual Gala & Auction: Music & Movies celebrated the extraordinary heights to which music and song can elevate film.
The evening, presented by The Slaight Family Foundation and Cineplex, featured an extraordinary lineup of outstanding musical performances by: Mike Ross and Jessica Mitchell accompanied by Bill King, courtesy of Slaight Music; a performance by Bobby Bazini, courtesy of Universal Music Canada, and a surprise performance by soprano Measha Brueggergosman. CFC’s current Slaight Music Residents, Adaline, Robyn Dell’Unto and Matthew O’Halloran also performed in The Carlu’s Round Room during the pre-dinner cocktail reception and post-dinner celebrations.
Acclaimed actors Sheila McCarthy (Emily of New Moon, Little Mosque on the Prairie) and Debra McGrath (Little Mosque on the Prairie, Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town) presided as the evening’s Masters of Ceremony. Gala Co-Chairs were Gary Slaight, President & CEO, Slaight Communications Inc. and Slaight Music, and Michael Kennedy, Executive Vice President, Filmed Entertainment Cineplex Entertainment LP.
The Annual Gala & Auction is CFC’s most significant fundraising initiative. More than $600,000 was raised to support the development of Canada’s creative and entrepreneurial talent in the screen-based entertainment industries.
In attendance were Canadian film, television and digital media talent, luminaries and philanthropists including film directors/producers Patricia Rozema, Bruce McDonald, Don Carmody, Christina Jennings, Marty Katz, actors David Sutcliffe, David Hewlett, industry executives Ron Suter, Roma Khanna, Kate Alexander Daniels, Helga Stephenson, Randy Lennox, Heather Conway, and Barbara Williams.
Guests enjoyed a luxurious four-course dinner courtesy of Chef de Cuisine North 44 )°, surrounded by the lavish décor of The Carlu by Jeffry Roick of McNabb Roick Events.
Highlights of this year’s Live Auction include: a trip to glamorous Los Angeles where winners will spend three nights at a fabulous five star property and enjoy the Season Six Live Finale of The Voice; a $10,000 shopping spree at Holt Renfrew complete with a personal shopper and lunch for four at Holts Café; and a JUNO Awards package, which includes three nights at the Fairmont Winnipeg, plus a behind the scenes tour and attendance at the JUNO Gala Dinner & Awards.
