The Canadian Film Centre’s Worldwide Short Film Festival (WSFF) is North America’s premier venue for the exhibition and promotion of short film. WSFF is attended by filmmakers, buyers, and delegates from many countries, and is one of only three festivals in Canada accredited by the Academy Awards®.
We are currently seeking an intern for our Submissions Department to help with processing all short film submissions for the coming festival.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Processing festival film submissions (data entry, labeling, stills documentation and filing of materials);
- Maintain an orderly library of pre-screening DVDs;
- Digitize submissions into our on-site digital library;
- Assist with preparation and documentation of packages of films sent to and returned from Festival Programmers;
- Help maintain the Festival’s database, including adhering to the festival information style guide;
- Field general enquiries about the Festival;
- Tracking information and workflow for Festival Reporting;
- Writing a final festival report;
- Additional projects as assigned.
Desirable skills and qualities:
- Keenly attentive to detail and well organized;
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite, FileMaker Pro (or similar database) and comfortable performing internet research;
- Familiarity with video file formats is a plus, but not necessary;
- Comfortable in a fast-paced and deadline driven work environment;
- Additional language skills an asset, but not necessary.

The Canadian Film Centre’s Worldwide Short Film Festival (WSFF) is North America’s premier venue for the exhibition and promotion of short film. WSFF is attended by filmmakers, buyers, and delegates from many countries, and is one of only three festivals in Canada accredited by the Academy Awards®.
The Publications Editor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the preparation and publishing of the WSFF Symposium Flyer, WSFF Program Guide, WSFF Marketplace Catalogue, WSFF Delegate Handbook, WSFF e-mail newsletters, and specific program/community flyers. This role will also be responsible for helping to organize the distribution of WSFF materials including the program guide, schedule brochure and one page flyers and program sheets, as well as taking the lead on social networking tools during the festival.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Layout and design work for the Symposium Flyer, WSFF Program Guide, Delegate Handbook, Digital Marketplace Catalogue, Flyers and other festival publications.
- Information and image management for the festival website, journalist stills gallery, and mobile application, including liaising with third party developers.
- Work with CFC and WSFF staff to secure and coordinate all logos, advertisements and letters of greeting from various sponsors, contra partners and government officials that appear in festival Publications.
- Ensure accuracy of information in festival publications and that updates are accurately reflected in the festival database, after print deadlines.
- Ensure that all stills submitted to the festival can be accessed post festival in the WSFF shared drive for year-round programming purposes
- Liaise with printers of guide and catalogue to ensure that work is completed within budget and time limits; Communicate any changes to materials including size, costs and deadlines
- Create and send the WSFF e-newsletters during the duration of the Publications Editor contract
- Collect slides and create powerpoint slideshows for Festival screenings
- Layout and design work of festival award winners flyer upon decisions being made by the jury
- Provide supervison and guidance to Publications Intern
- Other duties as required or assigned, including assisting as needed with Festival Operations
- Write a final festival report
Desirable skills and qualities:
- Advanced knowledge of web publishing, the Adobe Creative Suite and basic HTML is essential.
- Knowledge of FileMaker Pro or equivalent database
- Strong organizational skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Superior writing and editing skills. Copy editing experience is an asset.
- Ability to communicate with other departments and external stakeholders.
- Publishing experience is an asset.
- Comfort with multi-tasking and prioritizing workflow.
- Ability to handle pressure with aplomb and grace.
