Michael Peter Olsen
Michael Olsen is a Toronto-based cellist, engineer, producer and songwriter whose experience impressively spans the Canadian indie music scene. As a cellist, he has recorded and performed on over 100 recordings, including Arcade Fire’s “Funeral”, K-OS’ “Joyful Rebellion” , Jim Guthrie’s “Now, More than Ever”and The Hidden Cameras’ “Smell of Our Own”. Olsen toured internationally with Hidden Cameras in the early 2000s and has shared the stage with such diverse bands as Holy F*ck, Zaki Ibrahim, Great Lake Swimmers, Arcade Fire, The Constantines, Jayme Stone, Kevin Hearn, Rheostatics, Gentleman Reg, Slakadeliqs, Mocky, Sarah Slean and Jim Guthrie.
As a string arranger, engineer, and producer, he has worked with The Organ, Drake, Emma Lee, The Clics, Spiral Beach and Ohbijou. Olsen has written music for short films, TV and Radio commercials, including the TV series Kenny vs Spenny.Olsen fronts an original band called Our Founders, who released their critically acclaimed debut album in October 2013. Michael holds a BA in music performance from the University of Toronto.
