Overview

What is it?

A new program offering, this is a 12 week, full-time, in person Comedy Story Room Intensive at the CFC for up to six (6) emerging/mid-level Black, Indigenous and People of Colour writers.

The Story Room is led by a Canadian Comedy Showrunner with a proven commitment to mentoring writers, with a real comedy series they are actively developing and committed to taking out to the marketplace at the end of the intensive.

This is a professional training initiative for emerging/mid-level writers, with real opportunity for commercial outcomes for all participants.

Program Structure

The program provides a team-based approach to a writers’ room, delivered under the mentorship of an experienced executive producer. Program residents receive “on the job” experience, spending half of the program working on the executive producer’s series, and the other half developing and packaging their own original series.

Eligibility

This intensive is for emerging/mid-level Writers

  • Who are deeply committed to comedy writing

  • Who have professional comedy writing experience  (sketch, standup, series, shorts, features, podcasts, theatre, etc.)

  • Who have been in at least one broadcaster/streamer supported series development room.

  • Who self-identify as Black, Indigenous of People of Colour

  • Who are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada

Tuition & Fees

Tuition: $6,000 (covered by scholarship)

Tuition is $6.000 CAD (covered by scholarship).

Thanks to the generosity of CFC donors, including longstanding donors to our endowment fund, and our program partner Bell Media, all tuition fees for this Comedy Intensive will be covered through a full scholarship awarded to all incoming residents. In addition, for the duration of the program, participants will receive a monthly $750.00 CAD bursary. For individuals from outside of Ontario who are relocating to Toronto to attend the CFC, they will receive a fixed, one-time relocation bursary of $1,500.00 CAD.

There is a $100 CAD application fee via PayPal for all applications to The Comedy Story Room Intensive. If the application fee is a barrier to applying, please contact: programs@cfccreates.com
