Back in January, we joined forces with Fandor, in association with Telefilm Canada and TIFF Industry, to call on filmmakers and members of the global film community to reimagine and rebuild a new film ecosystem. We did so by presenting The Future of Film: Imagining & Building a New Film Ecosystem, an event that featured a candid conversation with award-winning independent film producer Ted Hope, former CEO of Fandor and current Head of Production for Amazon Original Movies, on the current challenges and advantages facing filmmakers in today’s industry.
We filmed (how appropriate!) key parts of this 90-minute conversation to share with the broader film community, with the hopes of engaging more film and digital media content creators in an ongoing conversation about how to support and establish a sustainable model for film within a market that is rapidly changing as a result of digital platforms, online audiences and new technologies.
“Cinema is not defined by its business model, its consumption model, its exhibition model … and I think all of us, as both creators and entrepreneurs, have to find a model that allows for much greater experimentation and iteration.”
For more wisdom and insights from Ted Hope, watch the video below, where Hope addresses film’s transformative experience, the future of film and the business model, film’s expanding style and form and the democratization and liberation of cinema.
