'Sausage Party', Diverse Line-Up Among Highlights at the 2016 JFL Comedy Pro

This year marks the sixth year that the Canadian Film Centre (CFC) has attended the Just For Laughs (JFL) Comedy Pro conference, which has become an essential event for talent and industry professionals wanting to create in the comedy space.

Since we began attending and co-presenting select events, the JFL Comedy Pro has attracted more and more key industry players, while also making a point to increase inclusion by welcoming comics of varying genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations and styles. This year's conference kicked off with a panel with the Veep cast (including star Julia Louis-Dreyfus), which set the stage for what was still to come, including an array of strong female voices (including Maria Bamford, Lilly Singh, Iliza Shlesinger, Michelle Wolf, Katherine Ryan and Cameron Esposito) and biting commentary on the current state of U.S. politics. Other highlights included a panel for Aziz Ansari’s Netflix series Master of None, the variety of live podcasts, and, last, but certainly not least, a sold-out screening of the much-anticipated R-rated animated film Sausage Party.

The CFC co-presented the 2016 JFL Comedy Film Series alongside Feature Comedy Exchange partner Telefilm Canada, and Sausage Party closed off the series on Saturday, July 30. Followed by a hilarious Q&A moderated by comedy icon Judd Apatow and featuring the film’s voice actors (Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig), writers (Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir) and directors (Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon), the Sausage Party screening was a satisfying and star-studded treat to cap off another successful Comedy Pro conference. (And that was before Vancouver-born Rogen came on stage toting a huge Canadian flag.)

Sausage Party hits theatres on Friday, August 12, 2016. For more information on the Telefilm Canada Feature Comedy Exchange, CLICK HERE
