Telefilm Canada has announced the inaugural finalists of its Micro-Budget Production Program. Among the selections is WHAT WE HAVE, by alumnus Maxime Desmons ('08), acting as director/producer, and producer Sally Karam. WHAT WE HAVE was CFC's partner submission for the program. In the film, a migrant gay tutor puts his reputation, and his heart on the line to protect his young student from a bully in a small Northern Ontario town.
Also selected as a finalist is CRAWLSPACE, by alumni Christian Sparkes ('11), who is directing, and producer Chris Agoston ('11).
This new program, which was launched in June 2012 with a budget of $1 million, is intended to support new filmmakers seeking to produce their first feature-length films, with special emphasis on digital-media production and marketing methods. Candidates for this year's program were recommended to Telefilm through a network of 25 partners from all regions of the country.
