Toronto, October 19, 2015 – The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) is pleased to announce that principal photography is underway on 22 CHASER, the high-octane drama about a desperate tow truck driver who risks everything to become king of the road … and piece together his broken family. This is the 22nd feature film to be developed and financed for production under CFC Features. Filming takes place from October 7 to November 4, 2015 in Toronto and Oshawa, Ontario.
22 CHASER, directed by Rafal Sokolowski (Three Mothers, Seventh Day, Lightchasers), is based on a screenplay by Jeremy Boxen (Killjoys, Lost Girl). The film stars Brian J. Smith (Sense8, Red Faction: Origins, SGU Stargate Universe), Raoul Trujilla (Sicario, Riddick, Cowboys and Aliens), Aaron Ashmore (Killjoys, Regression), Kaniehtiio Horn (What Would Sal Do, Hemlock Grove, Defiance), and John Kapelos (‘Carl the Janitor’ in The Breakfast Club). It is being produced by Don Carmody (Shadowhunters, Resident Evil franchise, Chicago), Daniel Bekerman (The Witch, Bang Bang Baby, Edwin Boyd) and Aeschylus Poulos (Sleeping Giant, Molly Maxwell, Picture Day); co-produced by Brendan Carmody (13 Eerie, Home Again); and executive produced by Justine Whyte (Cube, Nurse.Fighter.Boy, Rhymes for Young Ghouls).
“22 CHASER is a story that so many individuals will empathize and identify with,” said Justine Whyte, Director & Executive Producer, CFC Features. “This production is a fantastic example of several talented key creatives coming together to make it possible – it couldn't happen otherwise. It’s a true testament to the unique world and exciting ride this script promises.”
“We’re thrilled by the stellar cast we’ve been able to assemble for 22 CHASER,” added producers Aeschylus Poulos, Daniel Bekerman and Don Carmody. “An exciting mix of infectious, vibrant young talent and super experienced actors with major gravitas. The energy is electric.”
In 22 CHASER, tow truck driving ain’t for wusses. Work’s barely paying the bills, Ben’s marriage is unravelling, a loan shark’s thug is going to snap his bones if he doesn’t come up with the money he owes, and he's promised his son a bicycle for his birthday. But it’s pedal to the metal when Ben makes the dangerous leap from towing illegally parked cars to chasing accidents. As he joins the ranks of the fast and the furious, Ben learns that the price of success on the city streets might be his very soul.
The film will feature cinematography by Cabot McNenly, production design by Adam William Wilson, costume design by Bonnie Sutherland, and editing by Kye Meechan.
22 CHASER is produced through the Canadian Film Centre’s CFC Features program. Development at CFC Features is supported by the Government of Ontario, and production support and financing is supported by The Movie Network, a division of Bell Media, and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central.
