A celebrated actor, producer, screenwriter, and director, Daniel Petrie was responsible for many acclaimed titles including A Raisin in the Sun (nominated for the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival), Buster and Billie, and The Bronx, among many others. His films often explored difficult subjects, including racism in A Raisin in the Sun, which forged new ground and engaged society on a level that was both new and prolific. Daniel also served in a number of leadership positions with the Director’s Guild of America. Contributing to the Daniel Petrie Fund not only celebrates one of Canada’s great filmmakers, but also ensures that our residents will continue in Daniel’s footsteps to change our world for the better.
