Overview

The CFC NFB Feature Documentary Program is a unique laboratory for the development of successful theatrical documentaries to be hosted at CFC commencing in January 2009.  Four to six accomplished Canadian directors with viable concepts for theatrical documentaries will be selected to participate in this six-month program.  Designed to help accomplished directors develop cinematic documentaries that will advance the genre and achieve theatrical and critical success, this immersive experience will include a rigorous development process. Focused on the unique creative challenges of theatrical documentaries, it will partner participants with a “dream team” of collaborators (leading Canadian and international documentarians and craftspeople).  Specifically tailored to the precise needs of the participants, the program combines several weeks of residency at CFC with a supported inquiry phase focused on developing a treatment, and finally, shooting and editing a demo to demonstrate the power of characters and proposed visual approach. Participants’ projects will be considered for production at the conclusion of the Feature Documentary Program.

The submission deadline for the Documentary program is August 29, 2008.
