The Slaight Music Residency - Overview

The Slaight Music Residency will encourage a complete integration of music creators into the onscreen process while offering unique business opportunities to increase the use of Canadian music onscreen.

Over the last 24 years, CFC has trained and launched some of Canada’s most exciting and prolific storytellers, while fostering strong relationships and providing many showcase opportunities for our music community.

As we look to strengthen our relationship with onscreen talent, we recognize the need within our industry for more in depth, professional onscreen musical training that would adopt the same approach to nurturing talent that is the hallmark of CFC’s programs.

The Slaight Music Residency is aimed at composers and songwriters looking to break into the onscreen world, and will support four musical artists (two composers & two songwriters) per session.

The Slaight Music Residency will focus on:

  • Increasing their onscreen musical knowledge & skills
  • Fostering a deeper appreciation of the rich and important relationship of music to film and television among the next generation of onscreen creators
  • Expanding their professional network
  • Positioning them for ongoing work within the onscreen industries
  • Building opportunities to showcase their talent

The Slaight Music Residency will open doors wherever and whenever possible - with the end game being to increase sustainable work for our Canadian composers and songwriters within the onscreen industry.

The Slaight/CFC Music Fund

The Slaight/CFC Music Fund offers a compelling business case for CFC onscreen creators to incorporate Canadian music into their work whenever possible.  An annual fund is available exclusively for current CFC onscreen creators to commission original work (song or score) and/or license Canadian music found on the Slaight/CFC Music Resource in their CFC productions. The Music Fund will build stronger cross-promotional opportunities for Canadian music talent and CFC produced work while forging stronger creative relationships and increased awareness of these works and talent.
